A black widow is a terrifying spider no one wants to come upon. In the song Black Widow by: Iggy Azalea the spider takes on human form to seek revenge. The song is about a woman who has been in a relationship with a man. It starts out with the story of their relationship. They went, “from nothing to something, liking or loving". Then the man stopped putting the same amount of effort into the relationship and does not love her anymore. But he has stayed with her for the sex. The woman is pissed off and plots her revenge. She has decided to continue to love him but she is going to smother him with love. She is going to make him love her again and then leave him behind.

This relates to a black widow because for those people who can find bugs to be “pretty” the spider can be described as such. The black widow is normally a shiny black with a red X on its back. So the spider looks beautiful but once you make the spider mad and it bites you, you’re probably not going to like it anymore/ or may die. Just like the woman; she is going to love you as long as you love her. You screw her over; she is going to go crazy and who knows what she will do.

The spider also takes on human form in the music video. The outfits worn and some of the settings are black and red, just like the black widow. By having these two colors appear frequently it shows the meaning of the song in an easier way. Some artists don’t want to give the meaning of their songs away for privacy reasons or to give the viewers more leeway into what they believe the some means. Iggy Azalea wanted to make sure her viewers knew what her song meant. These two colors also represent the fear and danger that a black widow can bring when it comes near. The women in this video were dressed in red and black so when they came around others they would tremble in fear. For example, when the women walked into the club, to destroy the man, everyone around them ran in fear.

Not only does this song show a woman getting revenge but it also shows feminism in a bad ass way. The women in this video prove that they can dominate in multiple characters that are normally male dominated. The first character played by a woman is a martial arts master. The second is an underground poker player who won. The third character that both women played were assassins. Buff males usually play these characters or when females play them they are shown as unattractive. In the video attractive, strong, kick butt females’ play these roles. A song that can present all of these traits is interesting and because of its pop genre, is listened to by millions of people.
