11/4 Urmston - "Red Wine"

You know the old saying… “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Now, whisking down a glass of vino before bed is what’s providing major heath benefits, and people are raving about it.

Red wine has always been seen as a drink that makes us feel classy, sexy, and in some cases, unstoppable (depending on the amount you’ve consumed, anyway). Maybe it’s movies to blame for setting up a glass of wine to have this much power—the scene of a mysterious woman at the end of a bar, legs crossed in her little black dress with her red lips pressed against a long-stemmed glass, sipping slowly on her deep red wine. We know this image, and as women, we find it easy to mimic it ourselves. It makes us feel as confident as the woman in the film. And while the act of drinking red wine has such a memorable look to it, it has just as powerful of a feel.

Behind closed doors, red wine is taking on a different role, providing women AND men with benefits doctors are saying actually improve health. Studies shown by the American Heart Association say that red wine may actually protect our hearts, preventing the constriction of blood vessels following a meal that can lead to a heart attack. Thanks to the plant-based chemical called resveratrol found in the grapes used for red wine, it has also been found to lower the blood levels of LDL cholesterol while the antioxidants in red wine have shown protection against coronary artery disease.

The list of benefits goes on, seeming that a glass of red wine before bed is a no-brainer. Red wine is a healer. It’s a confidence booster. And at the very end of the day, it’s one of the best sleep inducers as an alternative to popping those regular sleeping pills.

Finally, the color. It seems silly because the color of wine comes from what it’s made from rather than made because of its color. But what is discovered about the color red and the physical effects it has on human beings shared one too many similarities to the physical effects of red wine.

It is found that red:
-Increases enthusiasm
-Stimulates energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate
-Encourages action and confidence
-Provides a sense of protection from fears and anxiety

After drinking a glass or two of red wine, wouldn’t we look at this very same list and think again what they’re actually talking about? The same physical feels we get from a color are the same found at the bottom of a glass of pinot noir.

Red wine is power. And the power, is endless.
